Syllabus

Foundation

The complete Foundation programme is 3 ten week terms; however some students may be eligible to enrol onto the Stage 1 course after the first or second term, subject to the quality and fluency of their recitation.  The focus will be on the letters of the Arabic alphabet and their pronunciation, and their articulation points and characteristics, with an emphasis on application.

We concentrate on the correct recitation of Surah al-Fatihah. Thereafter shorter surahs from Juz Amma will be incorporated into lessons depending upon the progress of the group. The course is due to run on Friday evenings and will cover all the letters contained in the Arabic alphabet.

Class size limited to 7 students.

Benefits

  • Review and correct pronunciation of the Arabic letters which is fundamental to recitation of the Qur'an.
  • Learn and practice correct pronunciation with an understanding of the articulation points and characteristics of the Arabic letters.
  • Strengthen your connection with Allah through the Qur'an.
  • Improve your recitation in your Salah
  • Fulfil the individual obligation of knowing how to recite the Qur'an correctly

Stage 1: Reciting from Juz Amma (Juz 30)

Tajweed is an obligation for all Muslims. The importance of this knowledge cannot be emphasized enough, as any departure from the correct way of reciting the Qur'an invalidates it as the Qur'an.

Teacher: Shaykh Marwan Ghalayini

This stage is suitable for students who are able to recite the Qur'an with a least some basic fluency and are new to Tajweed. Stage 1 will focus on learning and applying Tajweed theory to correct the major mistakes which occur when reciting.

Students are required to attend a brief assessment with Shaykh Marwan, prior to entry to ensure they proceed to the correct stage. Click here for assessment dates

Class size limited to 10 students.

Benefits

Improve your relationship with Allah (swt) and the Qur'an as follows:

  • Learn to fulfil the obligation due upon every Muslim: to recite the Qur'an to an acceptable standard.
  • Improve the quality of your Qur'anic recitation in your daily prayer. This will have a direct impact upon the connection you feel with Allah (swt), during the course of your prayer.
  • Be in the presence of angels, whilst tranquillity, peace and mercy descend upon you from Allah (swt). Be one of those mentioned by Allah (swt) to the angels.

2. Bookings should be made online and will be confirmed by email once you have registered and paid in full.

3. The mandatory assessments will occur prior to the start of the course and will be specified on the website and in your confirmation email upon booking.

4. If you miss the mandatory assessment, Utrujj will defer your place to the next term. If you miss the mandatory assessment a second time, then we regret that you will forfeit your course fees.

5. After the assessment, students will be allocated to the most suitable stage. This information will be communicated to students by Utrujj before the start of any class.

6. Utrujj will admit students to the next stage when their recitation has reached the required level, following a satisfactory end of course assessment.

7. Utrujj requires a minimum of 5 students for any Tajweed Course to be viable.

15. Where students miss a class, they are expected to contact the class representative to ensure they keep up with the syllabus.

16. Students are expected to prepare for their weekly lesson. This ensures the class maintains momentum whilst also facilitating individual progress.

17. Usually pPreparation for a class should be done on a daily basis for a minimum of 30 minutes a day or as directed by your teacher.

18. Students lacking in preparation may not be permitted to continue in a particular stage as it hinders the progress of other students. 90% of individual progress relies heavily on home preparation.

  • a. Tajweed theory or individual recitation, please address your Teacher.
  • b. Any feedback/requests, please contact your class representative or email tajweed@utrujj.org. Please allow 5 working days for a reply.
